Orthodox Church attacked repeatedly in Gaza

Amidst the growing uproar over the Pope's quotation in a lecture that was deemed insulting to Islam, an Orthodox church in Gaza has been attacked repeatedly three days after the news broke out.
First, a home-made grenade exploded outside a Christian youth association adjacent to the Chruch this Friday morning, three small home-made bomb devices also blew up later in the day, one targeting the same youth association, one exploding inside the church compound and the fourth targeting the outer wall of the compound.
Of course this wasn’t mentioned on Al-Jazeera’s coverage of the “crisis” that consumed 25min of their evening news, talk about fueling things up!

It all started when the Catholic leader quoted the Byzantine emperor (Manual II Paleologos), in a lecture he was delivering about religion and violence. The Emperor and a Persian philosopher exchanged a series of letters about faith, religion and it’s relation with the state and law. The Emperor wrote the letter mentioned by the Pope while Ottoman Muslim troops were besieging his homeland; the siege lasted for five years. He wrote about his strong contempt for spreading religion my means of violence. Well, the Empire which was torn apart at that time and denied help by the Catholic Chruch and the West was forced to sign a peace treaty with the Ottoman Emperor and paying him a tribute (Jezyah). In 1453 Muslims invaded the empire, converting Hagia Sophia Cathedral (Once, that largest church in the world) into a mosque.
-----------------------------
1. What the Catholic Pope did is absolutely irresponsible and is malignantly deliberate. The Emperor was first concerned about Islam rise, but it turns out that what he should have feared from at that time was the Western Church that their first crusades were actually fought against the Orthodox church in Eastern Europe, and then fighting the Orthodox church in the Holy Land and Jerusalem, while they were claiming to be on a crusade to free the holy land from the Islamic invasion. Bringing up such comment is not Christian at all, and could be only described as provocative. You see, you are supposed to bring people together.

2. Now for those who bombed the Church in Gaza , first of all, the whole “uproar” started because the comments imply that Islam is not peaceful and Muslims felt offended because they say Islam didn’t spread by means of the sword….so what exactly are you trying to say here? You don’t protest the claims about you being violent by using violent means.

4.You will never terrorize us! And we are here to stay.(We:Christians)

The Pope does not represent all Christians! He's a leader of a Christian sect. called Catholic. The Church attacked is Orthodox; the ancient christian faith that was inherited and delivered unchagned directly from the apostles.
The Catholic churches and all Christian churches in the Holy Land region (Levantine,Egypt,Iraq,Cyprus,Turkey) denounce such comments. This does not mean you have the right to attack any Western catholic church or the Vatican.

-Thanks for all those who sent me emails wondering where I've been , you are so sweet :D. Well, I'm taking a break for now.

- Katie Couric is just doing a great job, she's adorable! I mean her smooth voice, freindly face , gives you the illusion that everything is fine and the world is sane! Though I think she was kinda lean with Bush! Cabbies suggest that you put two TV sets at top of each others to fully appreciate Katie,HDTV will make it even better, or SeeBS (CBS) should put one of those transparent disks. Though the format is kinda annoying, and the news is not covered in depth.

Comments:
Good for you explaining how illogical it is to protest being called violent by using violence.

But the Catholic church is not a sect -- it is the church founded by Jesus Christ. Jesus is truely God and truely man. He taught us to call God our Father. God wants the entire world to be His children and that is what the Pope is trying to do. If one of my children were trying to hurt one of my other children, I would hope a friend of mine would try to stop it from happening. John Paul II had a lot of respect for muslems who loved God especially fond of teh reverence in the way they prayed.

When you look at the two philosophies, Christian and Islam, you see that the truths in Islam are contained in the Christian truth, and that when the differences are considered Christianity is about a God that loves all of us and wants us to be with Him -- thats why Jesus sent teh aposiles out to baptise all nations.
+Peace!

Well, I honestly felt that what The Holy Pope said was a bit over the edge, I mean he just shouldn't have quoted Manuel II, but it just showed how John Paul and Benedict are so very different. I loved and respected John Paul to the max, he truly deserved it.

On the other hand, I didn't appreciate how the media blew things out of proportion, it's like, since when the west in particular care about Muslims? Or is it just a big conspiracy against Catholics? I felt that Americans used this to provoke even more violence towards all conservative faiths in the world, even if they were Christian, I just felt all this hype was nonsense, it was unnecessary.
