A Jordanian arrested in the UK, what went wrong?

Here is Mohammad and his son, one year ago (After staying a year in the UK)Dr.Mohammad Asha a Jubilee school graduate was arrested in the UK on charges of leading a terrorist ring in the UK which was behind the last failed attacks. His parents say he is innocent, he has not been involved in any politics at university (like such thing exists in Jordan) and he is only devoted to Medicine.
The sad thing about this story is that Mohammad represents a true example of a hard working Jordanian. His father is a teacher, they reside in Hay Al Zuhoor . Yet he was a true achiever, always at the top of his class. He got 7 siblings, who 3 of them are doctors as well. His parents say he is not an extremist, he has never shown anything of that, he is not strict, and prays like any Muslim.
So what went wrong?Assuming the UK's security forces are right about him.
Well, the security forces say that Asha has once posted on some forum the following after the Danish cartoons issue " But now, after you insulted our prophet, we shall not forgive you", for the record,this is not why he was arrested or this being used as an evidence for his arrest.
If he is truly involved, there might be some explanation, and I've personally witnessed this:
What happens is that Arab students go to study abroad in countries where political and religious freedoms are granted for all, say countries like: US,UK,Canada and Australia. Now these students get to know other Muslim students usually Pakistanis who got some extremists among them, and that's when they are fed with all this crap. And this is out of personal experience (a close friend would stop talking to you, because you are a Christian,the guy was transformed in 5 months). As in Pakistan extremist groups and parties are deeply rooted in that country, and for an Arab student who finds him/herself in an alien culture and lately a hostile culture to Islam (think of post 9/11,the Danish cartoons,the Pope's lecture,etc) these guys would have some affect.

The majority of Muslims in Jordan are devout Muslims, and for them Islam is respecting others and living peacefully. For decades Muslim Jordanians have been studying abroad achieving high ranks and good friendship where ever they go.
It's just the bad company and the shallowness of the person that would ruin everything.
The question is, if this Asha guy didn't leave Jordan, would he ever get involved in such things? It's a very tricky question.

Lets hope the British are wise enough to realize that these are the acts of few, because any discrimination or hate would only generate new recruits (the terrorists would win). On the other hand,the Muslim community should weed off all those trying to set the world on fire, and should start integrating in these countries.

Contrary to your fears, there are Americans like me who are working to tell others the people of Jordan are wonderful, kind souls. At some point I hope to serve with the peace corps (ngo style charity group) in your country, and I surely wouldn't go there if I believed my safety was in question.
I've been in Jordan before, and as I've said to many of my fellow Americans, I consider it to be my home away from home - I don't say that lightly. Yes, there will always be people who will lump the Middle East into the "radical Islamists" ball of wax, but most haven't seen it except through their television sets, so they're speaking from ignorance.
Remember always there are people who know better and aren't afraid to speak up.
Yes, this will be a setback for Jordan, but Americans have short memories. Most I doubt heard about the missile attack on the US ship in Aqaba a few years back, and certainly we didn't hear about the sentencing of the individual. Americans are a busy bunch of people just trying to make a living with their heads down at their desks and don't have time to think ugly thoughts beyond our rotten coworkers or scumbag bosses.
Trust me, this will blow over. If you didn't get a rotten rep after the US ambassador was shot dead a few years back, you won't get one now. If, on the other hand, radicals from Jordan pull a 9/11/01 style attack...it's almost guaranteed you will have a 500 kilo spoon tied around your neck for all eternity.

After re-reading, you might need the spoon with the locals. I hadn't thought too much about the small scale. No matter if the person's guilty or innocent, the damage has been done in small minds.
Just hold your head up, walk tall, and know you're better than what public perception might paint you as. Don't be a slave to what others think or you'll never get through life alive. ;)

Well,
The two pictures tell the whole story, of course I hope he is innocent but I don't trust anyone with a beard..I don't know if you watched CNN's "the war within", it was about extermists in britain, It is amazing how they can spread hate, with those kind of people there should be no such thing as "human rights", when someone comes up and tells you that it is ok to kill civilians and "infidels" I think he should be hanged in public..

Even if the guy is guilty, I don't see how this is bad for jordanians. I mean the brits and the americans have slaugheterd far more innocents, in the millions if I might add, than any terror group which claims to be islamic. Still, the americans and the brits walk freely in Jordan and everywhere else, except Iraq. So way I see it, if their shit don't stink, why should ours. Above all, Anlgozionist terror is a decision of the majority, in our case, this doctor, if convicted, has acted alone. No one voted for him to kill ot starve innocents, like the Brits and Americans and Jews did when they sent their terror militias to slaughter innocents in the hundreds of thousands in Palestine and Iraq and Lebanon. .

I understand what you are saying, and believe me i condemn those isalmic fundimentalists more than the brits or the americans because they give us a bad name ... i am not worried abt my personal life i would blend in US or Europe in no time i dont even look like an arab and i'm a Liberal and am so familiar with western culture ... am talking about the normal ppl ... look how many chances of good education or good careers has been lost because of guys like Asha (if he is guilty that is) ...

It's not the Pakistanis who exported terrorism, it's the Arabs with their money, even the Islamic militants fighting in Far East got most of their support from us.

PanArabisim and the whole "Kulna Arab" thing is a big scam.
By us I meant Arabs, Jordanians included. Our government supported blindly Islamists in the 1970s and 1980s that they infitrated every public institution in the country. I don't think El Ekhwan El Muslimeen is a "terrorist" orgainzation by ideology but quite a few Jordanian ISlamists ended up with Al Qaeda and the bigger problem was that the majority of Jordanians ended up believing in these organizations as the only of progress in our countries. We supported them by money and protection. Saudi Arabia, Egypt and some other Arab countries supported them with plenty and plenty of money, and of course America was satisfied with that. What's happening now is not a result of something happening 3 or 4 years it's a results of many mistakes commiteed a couple of centuries ago
This is not about Jordan, India or any particular country. This is also not about doctors, or programmers, or cab-drivers. This is about an ideology that teaches hate, violence and intolerance.
This is about people that accept things uncritically and persecute those dare to question what is written in their holy writings. They also inprison or kill those who dare speak out against this mentality of spiritual intolerance.
Ask yourselves why hate, violence and intolerance come so easily to certain countries that all follow a certain faith. Ask about the lack of human rights and equality in these countries. Ask about how these countries treat their minorities and women.
Perhaps it is time to consider the source of terror. Has anybody read the Quran and hadiths? They explain a lot of things.
Oh yes, Congratulations on Petra. For sure it deserved the honour (unlike the Corcovado, and I would have selected the Hagia Sphia or Angkor Wat, instead). I have never been to Jordan but my dauighter has been there and she loved it. She also said very kind things about the Jordanian people. We did not talk about the religion of that country, obviously, because she knows my opinion.
